ATMs in Finland no longer accept UnionPay cards

As expected, from today, October 3rd, Nosto ATMs no longer serve UnionPay cards. It was the only network in Finland that worked with the Chinese payment system. The decision was made due to the increased demand for cash from the Russians.

Nokas CMS, which owns ATMs, said that in recent weeks, Russian citizens have “emptied” ATMs on the eastern border of Finland “in a matter of hours.” “In the worst case, the amounts of cash withdrawn were so large that they could not be private Russian tourists shopping in Finland,” Risto Lepo, a spokesman for the company, told RIA Novosti.

Nokas CMS owns more than 500 Nosto ATMs in Finland. Otto ATMs also operate in the country; they do not accept UnionPay cards. Since September 30, the Finnish authorities restricted entry of Russian tourists into the country. An exception is made for Russians who enter the country for family reasons, study, work or for medical treatment.
