The spokesperson for the Socialist Party (PS), Pierre Jouvet, spoke out on Saturday August 27 in favor of a single candidacy from the entire “united left” for the presidential election of 2027. Speaking on France Inter, from Blois, where the PS summer school is held, he warned: “We are in front of the last station before the desert, the next victory will undoubtedly be the National Rally and Marine Le Pen if we do nothing. »
Mr. Jouvet, who had participated before the legislative elections in the founding negotiations of the New People’s Ecological and Social Union (Nupes), does not rule out the idea of continuing this alliance for the next electoral deadline, the European elections of 2024 “We are not refusing anything on principle, but an electoral agreement is first and foremost a substantive discussion”repeated Mr. Jouvet. “Everyone knows our differences and everyone knows that especially with La France insoumise, but also with the Communist Party, we have fundamental differences on the European approach. If we discuss, and we have more than a year to do so, and we see that we have a shared project at European level (…), why not. »
LFI and EELV executives invited
After the presidential fiasco, the Nupes agreement for the legislative elections enabled the PS to save the day and keep a group of 31 deputies, far behind the 77 deputies of LFI. The challenge of the summer university which opened on Friday in Blois is to rebuild a “new PS” by reconciling with the party cadres who had denounced this alliance. Carole Delga, president of the Occitanie region, has thus shown her desire to “defend the collective” and to present a united front with first secretary Olivier Faure.
Several of the main opponents of the alliance, on the other hand, were absent from Blois, like former President François Hollande, who is preparing a new book, former Minister Stéphane le Foll, who brought together anti-Nupes in July in Sarthe, or former Prime Minister Bernard Cazeneuve, who left the PS after the alliance with LFI.
In a speech on Saturday evening, Olivier Faure should defend his strategy again, after a debate in the afternoon in plenary with several Nupes partners, such as the LFI deputy Clémentine Autain, or the European deputy Europe Ecologie-Les Verts Yannick Jadot, on the theme “Who are we fighting with? ».
