From the stage, a text about how a dress, an element of a national costume, a belt, a headdress was found in some abandoned House of Culture in different years … Culture was sent to the dustbin of history.

KUB is the Kizelovsky coal basin. The actors of Dominanty, together with director Dmitry Ogorodnikov, conducted research, studied archival materials and the urban environment together with the local museum of local lore and the library, reached the events of the beginning of the 20th century, the Soviet era, the war years, met with former miners, recorded their stories. As a result, there were impressive, emotional stories about how wives did not sleep at night when their husbands descended into the mine, how they instantly fell asleep when they heard the turn of the key in the front door, how they spent their free time and played each other, lost and were reborn. A whole era has developed from a multitude of household and private details.

In the semi-darkness of the stage, as if in the depths of a mine, there are four small tables. Behind them are four young heroines telling stories related to the development of the city over the years. All of them – Marina Zuevas, Marina Pozdeeva, Ksenia Spiridonova, Yulia Trapikas, Elena Sharantay – will share their own experiences of hereditary residents and newcomers who recently arrived in Gubakha in the final.

They will explain to the audience the meaning of some words from the miner’s dictionary, they will tell you what a mine and an adit are, about which we still have some idea. But what a “brake” is, many learned for the first time. It turns out that this is the name of the lunch that they take with them to the mine.

The mines were renamed, then their former names were returned to them. Along with men, women worked in them. During the war, they had to replace fathers, husbands, and sons who had gone to the front. The heroines remember what good and strong men worked in the mine, how each of them was valued in production.

Mining folklore is rich and unpredictable. It is amazing that people, working in the most difficult conditions, did not lose their sense of humor, arranged practical jokes, lowering sheep into the mine, whose eyes glowed in the dark and, in combination with horns, created images of evil spirits. Only strong people could meet with the devilry in the bowels of the earth and not die from fear.

Reminiscent of foil, gleaming like anthracite in the beams of projectors, the curtain becomes a magical screen. On it, the faces of the miners replace each other. They are like otherworldly reflections, arising at the behest of the Mistress of the Copper Mountain. Near the elevator, delivering to the mine. Those who have ever descended underground know how narrow it is and not at all fabulously beautiful. “The Underground Kingdom” was fabulously invented by production designer Ulyana Glumova. Entire generations worked and strengthened the power of the country in it, ruthlessly written off to the dustbin of history as a waste breed. The actresses tell how they acted in the UK in the event of the liquidation of mines. First, all those subject to dismissal were trained in other specialties, providing a future life, and only then the mine was closed. And in Gubakha they simply doomed people, their settlements, children and houses to hopelessness and extinction, depriving them of prospects, destroying the whole world, which in reality turned out to be not at all fabulous.
