At the Moscow concert of Dolphin, the rain came in handy

The musician performed with a new program

The big Moscow concert of Dolphin was accompanied by rain from time to time. Precipitation and an open area are not the best couple, but Dolphin’s music and persistent reminders of the autumn that has begun coincided perfectly.

Dolphin is one of those musicians who are now allowed to be on tour, and after the spring release of the album “Farewell to Arms”, Andrei actively gives concerts. On the new album, Dolphin dances without any hesitation on the territory of pop music in his understanding of this phenomenon, and live such songs, probably, can be presented in different ways. The final author’s version, according to tradition, is a little surprising, but such is Dolphin.

How it looked

Pretty cool, and this steepness was achieved without unnecessary luxuries. The screen matches the average size of the Summer Stage space, the light of which was quite enough, a guitar, drums, a sampler and three people in the middle of this household. In concert minimalism, Dolphin and those who work with him have reached considerable heights. Probably three black figures in the backlight in words can seem like a very boring sight. In addition, during the action, Dolphin does not utter a word, preferring a few gallant bows, and mysterious video projections are sometimes combined with almost complete darkness. However, together with the music, all this creates a very atmospheric mix.

Having fresh material on hand, Andrey seems to be only interested in it, so the tracks from “Farewell to Arms” are presented not only by songs released as singles. The assembled people (mostly the generation of the heyday of Russian MTV) are clearly in the subject, but from time to time there was a chant: “I love people.” Of course, this is about that famous action movie from Dolphin’s first solo album “Not in Focus” (1997). The song at one time was very sweeping with all the linguistic luxuries sounded live on the popular program “Party Zone” in the late nineties. However, now the scandalous veil of Dolphin is not very interested, so the wishes of the public remain without due attention.

It would be an exaggeration to say that the artist has forgotten all the previous hits. In the setlist, of course, there are “Love”, and “Spring”, and “Autumn”, but they sounded rather dotted, without any special indication of their fame. And if we are to focus on retro, it is better to note the track “Nado” from the album “Creature” (2011). Maybe this song has a more modest nostalgic effect, but even people accustomed to the comfort of VIP areas can remember that they have legs and sometimes want to dance to it.

pros

Andrey and his small band manage to squeeze an incredible amount out of recitative, samples and guitar noise. At one time, this method of creating music looked like a complete disregard for what everyone around was doing. In the nineties, cosmopolitan whims could become the subject of some excitement, but all subsequent activities of the Delfin took shape without any compromise to the changing fashion.

As a result, the artist already has a dozen albums with a pronounced character and a concert in which post-punk, synth-pop and poems with a variety of interpretations add up to something that allows a very impressive collection of fans to give out a lot of emotions in response to a seemingly very cool music. And perceive the rain as an appropriate special effect.

Dolphin himself shows his status as a man over fifty so far only in the lines. There is wisdom in the new songs to accept what the public has not read in his past albums warnings about the gathering darkness, and now much is too late. On the stage, Andrey is still the same lively guy, ready to dance like the last time.

Minuses

Everything that happens at Dolphin’s concerts can be attributed to style and the author’s vision. But recognizing both, one would like to complain that the people deserved at least a small encore.
