Company “Ascona» is currently negotiating the use of former IKEA sites to house its hypermarkets there. This was announced by the Executive DirectorAscona В2С Russia and CIS” Vladimir Korchagov during the presentation of the Askona Home format store in the Columbus shopping center in the south of Moscow.
“As for the IKEA premises, this is indeed one of the priority areas among those that have become vacant. And now we are in the active phase of negotiations, including with MEGAs,” he said (cit. by Interfax).
Korchagov also noted that many sites are already occupied. For the development of its hypermarkets, Askona considers areas from 7000 sq. m, he added.
Earlier that the areas vacated after IKEA left Russia will be able to be occupied by “everyone” – from Russian manufacturers to Chinese and Turkish companies, June 15 told Secretary of State – Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Viktor Evtukhov.
In Russia, IKEA stores worked in Mega shopping centers. Now there are 14 such complexes in the country. In addition, IKEA had studios located in different shopping centers. On March 4, 2022, IKEA temporarily closed stores and studios in Russia amid a special operation in Ukraine, logistical problems and sanctions. In mid-June of the same year, it became known that the company was looking for buyers for its four factories in Russia, as well as reducing staff and selling off the rest of the goods.
