Apple will pay $25 million for employment discrimination - Kommersant

Apple Corporation agreed with the US Department of Justice to settle an investigation into allegations of employment discrimination. Apple will pay $25 million. The point is that the company hired employees from other countries who wanted to obtain permanent residence permits in the United States, instead of hiring US citizens and people who already have a residence permit in the country.

The investigation began in 2019. Apple refused to admit discrimination, saying only that in some cases it “inadvertently failed to follow DOJ standards.” Most of the amount – more than $18 million – will go to compensate individuals who may have suffered from discrimination, the remaining about $7 million will be a fine for violating the rules.
