The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry expressed protest in connection with the decision of the Berlin Opera to resume cooperation with Russian opera singer Anna Netrebko. In 2022, joint work with the artist was stopped due to the Russian SVO.

“The voice of Ukraine in Germany should be heard more than soprano Anna Netrebko,” the Ukrainian department said in a statement.

The Foreign Ministry also stated that it tried to prevent the Russian singer from returning to the Berlin stage, but Kyiv’s arguments were not heard in the theater.

It is indicated that on Friday evening, when Netrebko is due to perform on stage in the premiere performance, the Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany Alexei Makeev, together with the Berlin Culture Senator Joe Chalo, will visit an anti-Russian exhibition taking place next to the theater building as a sign of protest.

The Berlin Opera previously stated that they intend to resume cooperation with Netrebko, since she has not recently performed in Russia and does not plan to perform in her homeland at all.
