Yesterday, March 28, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton started an investigation against Boeing supplier Spirit AeroSystems. The investigation is centered on the company’s supply of Boeing 737 MAX fuselage parts with “obvious manufacturing defects that led to numerous alarming or dangerous incidents, some of which occurred in the air.” The Texas Attorney’s Office has already demanded documents related to these manufacturing defects from Spirit AeroSystems.
The problems for Boeing and Spirit AeroSystems arose after an incident in early January when an emergency exit hatch plug fell off on an Alaska Airlines 737 MAX 9, causing the cabin to depressurize. It subsequently became known that many Boeing 737s had hatch covers installed inappropriately; others were also found on the liners Problems with fuselage.
In addition, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) discovered dozens of violations in the production processes of the 737 MAX – both at Boeing itself and at Spirit AeroSystems.
