The first start-up of concentrating plant equipment took place at the Udokan copper deposit. President Vladimir Putin took part in the launch via VKS. The project is being implemented by the Udokan Copper company, part of the USM holding. The volume of investment in the project is 230 billion rubles, the financial partners are Sberbank, Gazprombank and VEB.RF.

Development of the field has been underway since 2020. Work is underway in two sections of the Zapadny quarry; they are located in the mountains at an elevation of about 2 thousand meters. The mining and metallurgical plant under construction is expected to be commissioned in two stages. As part of the first stage, two grinding and enrichment lines at the concentration plant will be launched, then all technological lines of the hydrometallurgical plant will be launched.

The launch of the second stage is planned for 2028, its productivity will be 24–28 million tons of ore per year. The first and second stages will ensure the processing of 50 million tons of ore and the production of 450 thousand tons of copper, which will allow the plant to enter the top ten largest copper producers in the world, Udokan Copper reported. Currently, the production volume is 6.5 million tons of ore.

Udokan Copper expects to focus sales on Asian markets, anticipating increased demand for copper as a result of the development of electric vehicles and renewable energy sources.
