Ford Motor noted that the company is “actively working to reach an agreement with the UAW,” but that “there are still significant gaps on key economic issues that need to be addressed.”
Overall, the UAW is seeking a 36% increase in workers’ wages over the four years of the labor contract. Employers so far agree to only 20%. In addition, the union demands a reduction in the working week to 32 hours while maintaining wages at the level of a 40-hour week. Employers explain their refusal to comply with the union’s demands by the need to invest their profits in the program for the transition to the production of electric vehicles, and this is associated with significant costs.
