Amazon to buy smart vacuum cleaner maker iRobot for $1.7 billion

Online retailer Amazon announced the purchase of iRobot, a manufacturer of smart vacuum cleaners, at a price of $61 per share. transmits CNBC. The deal is valued at $1.7 billion.

The acquisition was Amazon’s fourth-biggest deal, after buying grocery chain Whole Foods for $13.7 billion in 2017, filmmaker Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer for $8.45 billion last year and acquiring $3.9 billion network of primary care clinics One Medical, which was announced last month.
iRobot was founded in 1990 by robotics experts at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 2002, it released the Roomba, a robotic vacuum cleaner that can clean floors autonomously. The company also introduced robotic mops and pool cleaners.
