Alphabet will cut about 12,000 employees

The American Alphabet (Google’s parent company) will cut 6% of its staff – about 12,000 people, they write Reuters and Bloomberg with reference to a letter from CEO Sundar Pichai.

In the document, Pichai took responsibility for the upcoming cuts, noting that Alphabet has rapidly increased headcount in recent years, being in a “different economic reality” than it is today.

The reductions will affect all divisions of the corporation, and e-mails have already been sent to employees who have fallen under them.

Just two days ago, on January 18, about the intention to cut 10,000 employees (less than 5% of the state) announced and IT giant Microsoft. The layoffs will take place before the end of the third quarter of fiscal year 2023. For laid-off workers, the company promised to provide benefits and benefits, health insurance, which will be valid for six months after the reduction, as well as assistance in the transition to a new job.

Last fall, the American corporation Meta (banned in Russia and recognized as an extremist organization) reported that fired 13% of its employees, i.e. more than 11,000 people. The company will pay laid-off employees 16 weeks of base salary as severance pay, as well as two additional weeks for each year of service with the company. The corporation will also waive all non-key spending and extend the moratorium on hiring until the end of the first quarter of 2023.
