Almost all systemically important Russian banks have stopped accepting dollars and euros through ATMs

In 11 out of 13 systemically important credit institutions of the Russian Federation, they stopped accepting dollars and euros through ATMs, reported “Izvestia” in call centers and press services of banks. For the time being, it is still possible to deposit cash in bank branches.
You cannot deposit dollars and euros through ATMs in:
- “Save”;
- VTB (restrictions are effective from April 19, 2022);
- “Discoveries”;
- Raiffeisenbank (since early spring 2023);
- Unicreditbank (since March 9, 2023);
- Gazprombank;
- Sovcombank (since March 10, 2022);
- Moscow Credit Bank (MKB);
- Rosselkhozbank (RSHB);
- Promsvyazbank (PSB);
- Rosbank.
Most credit institutions did not name the reasons for the changes. The Otkritie call center reported that they stopped accepting currency through ATMs after the imposition of sanctions against the bank.
Of the systemically important credit institutions, only Alfa-Bank and Tinkoff accept dollars and euros. In the first bank, they do not charge a commission for depositing foreign currency, in the second – they charge a fee of 5%.
VTB and several other Russian banks, including Sberbank, Otkritie, Novikombank, Promsvyazbank, Rossiya, Sovcombank, are under EU blocking sanctions. All of them were disconnected from the SWIFT international payment system. The head of VTB Andrey Kostin nevertheless claimsthat the Russian banking sector is working reliably, and Western sanctions have destroyed the world trading system.
In July, the US imposed sanctions on five Russian banks — Tinkoff, Loko-bank (in the top 50), Solidarity and St. Petersburg Social Commercial Bank (both in the top 100), as well as Unistream, one of the five largest Russian players in cross-border transfers.
