Allison Kirkby will become the new head of BT Group – Kommersant

British telecommunications company BT Group announced on the appointment of Allison Kirkby as the new CEO. She is to succeed Philip Jansen in this post no later than the end of January 2024.
Philip Jansen told BT management in early July that he intended to leave his position within 12 months. After that, the board immediately began looking for a potential successor. Allison Kirkby is now CEO and President of Swedish mobile operator Telia, and previously held senior positions at Danish TDC and Swedish Tele2. In addition, Ms. Kirkby has been a non-executive director at BT since 2019. When exactly she takes over as CEO of BT, the company will notify separately.
Philip Jansen has previously said that BT needs to cut costs significantly to remain profitable. Based on this, in May it was announced about the intention to cut 40-55 thousand employees in the coming years. This is approximately 42% of the current state of the company.
At the end of 2023 financial year ended March 31, BT’s revenue decreased by 1%, amounting to £20.7 billion ($25.7 billion). Earnings before taxes, interest, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) rose 5% to £7.9bn ($9.8bn).
