All Quiet on the Western Front Wins Oscar for Best Foreign Film

All Quiet on the Western Front (Im Westen nichts Neues, Germany), directed by Edward Berger, won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. The plot is based on the famous novel of the same name by Erich Maria Remarque about service in the German army during the First World War.
This is Edward Berger’s first Oscar nomination. He has a total of about 20 films and TV series to his credit, among his famous works: Jack (2014), Germany 83 (TV series, 2015), The Terror (2018–2019), Patrick Melrose (TV series , 2018). All Quiet on the Western Front also won seven BAFTA awards, including Best Picture.
Argentina, 1985 (Argentina), Close (Belgium), Eeyore (Poland), Quiet (Ireland) also competed for the title of best foreign film.
