The Russian airline Aeroflot does not operate transit flights over Israeli territory. The carrier announced this in a conversation with TASS.
“We do not fly over Israeli territory,” the company said.
Previously in the south and center of Israel closed all airports. Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv continues to operate in compliance with safety rules, however, some flights both departing and arriving there have been delayed.
In the morning, the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas began firing rockets at Israel – 5,000 rockets were reported fired. Hamas militants entered populated areas of Israel, where they took hostages. The group calls its goal the creation of a Palestinian state.
In response to the actions of Hamas, Israel launched the counter-terrorism Operation Iron Swords in the Palestinian Gaza Strip. The country’s Defense Minister Yoav Galant called what was happening a war and promised that Israel would win it. A state of emergency has been declared throughout Israel. Dozens of dead and hundreds of wounded are known on both sides.
