Adidas loses stripe case against Thom Browne

German sports giant Adidas has lost a lawsuit against New York-based fashion brand Thom Browne. About it informs BBC.
In a lawsuit filed in 2021 in New York, Adidas sought Thom Browne banned the use of four parallel stripes on clothing, as they, according to the German company, are too reminiscent of Adidas branded stripes. The German manufacturer wanted to receive damages in the amount of $ 7.8 million. For their part, lawyers for Thom Browne insisted that the stripes are, in principle, a very common image on clothing and it is rather difficult to confuse four stripes with three stripes. The court sided with the defendant.
Interestingly, the stripe dispute between Adidas and Thom Browne originally started back in 2007. Then the New York brand for the first time appeared on some garments with three parallel stripes. The lawsuit filed by Adidas at the time was upheld. But Thom Browne did not refuse to use stripes – he simply added one more so that there were not three, but four.
