A writer from the Smolensk region filed a lawsuit against Akunin for plagiarism for 1 million rubles.

A writer from the Smolensk region, Tatyana Vikentyeva, filed a lawsuit in the Tagansky Court of Moscow demanding a ban on the rental of the series “Fandorin. Azazel,” the plot of which is a modern interpretation of the adventures of detective Erast Fandorin, a character in the novels of the writer Boris Akunin. The plaintiff accused Mr. Akunin of plagiarism and demanded to recover all the profits from the rental of the film in her favor, as well as to compensate her for moral damages in the amount of 1 million rubles, she reported. “The Tagansky District Court registered a civil case based on the claim of Tatyana Trofimovna Vikentyeva against Grigory Shalvovich Chkhartishvili (Boris Akunin.— “Kommersant”) about copyright protection. The claim has currently been left without consideration due to the plaintiff’s repeated failure to appear,” court press secretary Zulfiya Girinchuk told the agency. The writer told “Octagon.Media”that in November she filed several applications against Mr. Akunin: to the Ministry of Justice – to recognize the writer as a foreign agent, to the Prosecutor General’s Office, Roskomnadzor and the Investigative Committee – to block sites where the writer, as she claims, publicly insults the Russian authorities.

In another statement to the Investigative Committee, Ms. Vikentyeva demanded that the inaction of law enforcement agencies in not initiating a criminal case against Mr. Akunin under Article 146 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Violation of copyright and related rights”) was declared illegal, the publication reports.
