Court in Philadelphia decidedthat the German chemical concern Bayer must pay $175 million in a lawsuit filed by local resident Ernest Caranci, who accused the company that the herbicide it produces, Roundup, caused him lymphoma. Bayer will have to pay him $25 million in compensation, in addition, he will pay $150 million in fines. Bayer said it does not agree with the ruling and plans to appeal it.
Bayer has been at the center of numerous lawsuits over Roundup for several years now – since 2018, when the German concern bought the American company Monsanto, the direct manufacturer of Roundup.
