Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko said that a third of Russian companies already use artificial intelligence (AI) to solve work problems. According to him, the country’s authorities are relying on AI as the main driver of technological independence.

“A third of Russian companies are using AI for work tasks right now. And, according to the president, which he expressed just at the (Kommersant forum) AI Journey, AI technologies are especially important, as they open up the possibility of increasing efficiency in all areas, because AI is an end-to-end technology. We are relying on AI as the main driver of technological independence in the next few years, since this is also a direct order of the president,” said Mr. Chernyshenko (quoted from “Interfax”).

The official added that AI and widespread technology development make possible the transition “from an economy of scarcity to an economy of abundance.” According to him, artificial intelligence in conjunction with other technologies will reduce the cost of “virtually all goods” by reducing the cost of their production.

Dmitry Chernyshenko also said that today humanity has at its disposal “about a trillion times more computing power than 40 years ago.” By 2030, according to the updated AI development strategy, this technology should be introduced in all regions of Russia in the provision of social services and other areas, he recalled.

In February 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin approved an updated strategy for the development of artificial intelligence until 2030. It states that the readiness of key industries to implement AI should increase to 95% compared to 12% in 2022, and annual costs should increase to 850 billion rubles.
