Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that after the transfer of the Trinity icon by Andrei Rublev from the Tretyakov Gallery of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC), it will be placed in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow. According to him, the scheme itself has already been agreed upon and a group of specialists will examine the icon there.

“A scheme has been agreed upon, according to which the icon, in compliance with all requirements, will be moved to the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, where a group of specialists will make a decision on restoration, which will begin after a certain time,” said Mr. Peskov during the conference call.

Patriarch Kirill asked the presidential administration to agree on the transfer of the icon to the Moscow Cathedral of Christ the Savior for the celebration of the Trinity – June 4.

On May 17, the director of the Pushkin Museum, Elizaveta Likhacheva, said that the transfer of the icon carries risks. Commission for the Culture of Ancient and Medieval Rus’ of the Scientific Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences “History of World Culture” applied to the Minister of Culture Olga Lyubimova with a request to prevent the destruction of the Trinity.
