The completion of work on creating a replica of the spire became known in March 2023. The restorers completely followed the design of the author of the design, the French architect Eugene Viollet-le-Duc (1814–1879). A copper rooster will be installed on the spire, as before, after which its height will reach 96 m.
The fire in the area of the Notre Dame spire began on April 15, 2019, and was extinguished after 15 hours. The fire completely destroyed the wooden roof of the cathedral; the burnt spire fell onto the stone vault and pierced it in three places. The remains of the structure burned out on the floor of Notre Dame.

In August 2023 at the age of 74 died French Army General Jean-Louis Georgelin, who oversaw the restoration of Notre Dame.
