A record number of foreign brands came to Russia in four years – Kommersant

From January to September 2023, 16 new foreign companies entered the Russian market in the clothing, footwear and household goods segment, according to the consulting company NF Group (formerly Knight Frank Russia). The figure has become a record for the last four years.
According to materials from NF Group, which are cited by RBC, in 2019, 26 new foreign retail brands appeared on the Russian market, after which the number of new foreign companies decreased annually. In 2020, the market was replenished with 13 companies, in 2021 – 15, and in 2022 – 11. A record number of companies entered the Russian market in 2014 – 68.
Since the beginning of 2023, the following have entered the Russian market:
- Turkey – Network, Club, Loft, Oxxo, AC&Co, Mudo, Madame Coco, Karaca Home, Kelebek;
- Belarus – Comintern, Pizhon, Swef House;
- Estonia – BonBon Lingerie;
- South Korea – Inni;
- Australia – 2XU;
- Kyrgyzstan – Ayal.
NF Group drew attention to a significant change since 2022 in the geography of origin of foreign companies entering the Russian market. Previously, chains primarily from Europe and the USA began operating in Russia, for example, in 2021, the French Dior Beauty, the Spanish Zara Beauty, and the American Guess Activewear appeared in the country. In 2020, the situation was similar – the German network Boss Woman, the Swedish & Other Stories, and the Italian Ereda came to the country.
In June of this year, Russian President Vladimir Putin during the SPIEF statedthat representatives of Russian business are asking not to let back foreign companies that left the Russian market after the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine. However, according to him, if foreign firms that have left want to return, Russia will not close its doors to them and will create conditions for their work.
