A project to reduce the airtime of bookmaker advertising was introduced to the State Duma

A group of deputies introduced a bill to the State Duma that would reduce the airtime during which advertising of bookmakers is allowed by two hours. About it testify Data from the electronic Duma database.

Amendments are being made to the Law “On Advertising”. The authors suggest showing bookmaker advertisements only between 23:00 and 06:00 local time. Now this is allowed to be done from 22:00 to 07:00. The initiative also provides for a reduction from 20% to 10% of the total duration of such advertising from the total permissible advertising time during the broadcast of sports competitions.

The explanatory note states that since the formation of the Russian Federation, the country has become “open to Western culture and values.” We are also talking about such a “taboo type of activity” as the gambling business. As the authors note, this business is now prohibited in Russia, with the exception of five specially organized gambling zones.

At the same time, the ban does not apply to bookmakers, sweepstakes and lotteries. Deputies called them “an excellent fraudulent bait, the victims of which are often citizens from socially vulnerable segments of the population.” Active advertising by bookmakers contributes to the development of gambling addiction, new fraudulent schemes and criminal activity, the explanatory note says.

The bill was submitted to the State Duma on October 24. Its authors are the leader of the LDPR faction Leonid Slutsky, his deputy Sergei Leonov, Yaroslav Nilov, Boris Chernyshov, Vladimir Koshelev and a number of other deputies from the LDPR.
