The concert of Russian conductor Currentzis was canceled in Vienna at the request of Ukrainians

The portal iefimerida.gr reported that after the demands of the Ukrainian conductor Oksana Lyniv and other musicians, the concert of the Russian conductor of Greek origin Theodor Currentzis was canceled at the Vienna Festival.

It is clarified that Currentzis was supposed to perform Benjamin Britten’s “War Requiem” at the Burgtheater with the SWR orchestra at this festival. This was supposed to happen on June 12th. In turn, a concert by Ukrainian conductor Oksana Lyniv together with the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra will take place on June 2.

“There have been a lot of discussions in recent days. From them it became clear that the presentation of both concerts within the framework of the Vienna Festival is currently impossible,” noted the festival organizers.

At first, Ukrainian musicians refused to perform, but the organizers decided that there was no other choice but to cancel the concert led by Teodor Currentzis.
