A group of deputies submitted for consideration to the State Duma bill, which will limit the sale of non-alcoholic tonic drinks, including energy drinks, to minors. Parliamentarians also proposed banning their sale in bottles larger than 0.5 liters.
The explanatory note to the bill states that 65 regions of Russia have already adopted legislative acts that limit the sale of such products to minors, in educational and medical institutions, as well as at events in which children and adolescents participate. The document states that the State Duma received numerous requests to introduce a unified law to restrict sales.
The composition of tonic drinks, as the deputies specified, includes caffeine, the amount of which is several times higher than the permissible daily allowance. For this reason, in 2018, as stated in the explanatory note, the health committee recommended that legislators limit the sale of such drinks.
In January 2023, similar bill have already been submitted to the State Duma. He reached the first reading. Before the new draft was submitted for consideration, it was withdrawn. Similar bills were introduced into parliament in 2012, 2014, 2016, but none of them were adopted.
