The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry was offended by the words of the Pope of Rome about Russia, as a result, the department published an angry statement published on its website.
Earlier, during an online address to Russian youth, Pope Francis advised young Russians not to forget that they are the heirs of great Russia. He also urged not to abandon the traditional Russian heritage. The broadcast of Francis’ speech to the Catholic youth was broadcast in the St. Petersburg church.
“It’s a shame that Russian great-power ideas, which are the cause of Russia’s chronic aggression, consciously or unconsciously come from the lips of the Pope,” the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
This is not the first time in Ukraine that they have expressed dissatisfaction with the position of the Vatican regarding the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. Earlier, Pope Francis several times called for the start of negotiations on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine as soon as possible. The pontiff considers this option to be the best for all parties, and there are no other options, with the exception of dialogue, and cannot be. He is also sure that negotiations will start anyway, but the later this happens, the more human losses and destruction will be.
