Putin Expresses Condolences on Death of Russianist Carrer d’Ancos

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed condolences to the relatives and friends of Helene Carrer d’Encos, head of the French Academy and foreign member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, who died at the age of 95, the Kremlin press service reports.
Putin stressed that Helen Carrer d’Ancos was an outstanding scientist and public figure, and was also a friend of Russia. He noted her sincere love and respect for her Russian roots and historical homeland.
Hélène Carrère d’Encos, permanent secretary of the Académie française and foreign member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, was a recognized authority in scientific circles and among readers due to her numerous scientific works devoted to Russia.
Putin recalled his warm conversations with Carrer d’Ancos and expressed confidence that her intellectual and spiritual heritage contributes to strengthening mutual understanding between peoples.
Born to Russian-Georgian immigrants, Helene Carrère d’Encos was the first woman to be appointed President of the Académie française in 1999. She is also the cousin of the current President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili.
