Hydrophysicist Stanichny explained how to restore the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station

It is not possible to pump water from the Dnieper to the Crimean Canal

The Kakhovka reservoir no longer exists, there are puddles left, said the ex-head of the Melitopol district of the Zaporozhye region. We talked about the fate of the Kakhovskoye Sea, whose mirror area exceeded 2150 square kilometers, with the Crimean hydrographer and hydrophysicist, candidate of physical and mathematical sciences Sergey Stanichny.

“It’s been two weeks since the Kakhovka reservoir disappeared,” says Sergei Stanichny. – The old channel of the Dnieper and the floodplains, which were before 1954, remained. Basically, there is now a swampy lowland, which was before the construction of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station and flooding. The Dnieper flows with channels. In some places, small drainless reservoirs – oxbow lakes – formed.

— How wide is the Dnieper?

– Up to a kilometer. Upstream, at the Dnepropetrovsk hydroelectric power station, in the territory controlled by Kyiv, they are forced to drain water. They cannot accumulate it.

No water enters the Crimean Canal. The water level near the water intake, as the scientist says, fell by 11 meters.

– It would be possible to lay pipes and pump water from the Dnieper. There are several kilometers to the river. Powerful pumping stations are needed. And in the open they will be a good target. As long as the Armed Forces of Ukraine have the opportunity to shell the left bank, there is no need to think about it.

As for the cooling pond of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, there is good news.

– It turned out that it was built on one of the branches of the Dnieper. There is and will be water. The cooling pond just covers this “sleeve” of the river. As we once again made sure, the station’s design specialists foresaw all possible scenarios. The responsibility in those years was colossal.

Hydrographer and hydrophysicist Sergei Stanichny believes that it is quite possible to restore the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station.

– They made a dam in the Krasnodar Territory to the island of Tuzla. And fast enough. It is also possible to restore the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, but on the condition that the right bank of the Dnieper will also be under our control.
