30% of phishing emails are sent on behalf of government agencies – Kommersant

According to the Spetsvyaz operational center, a third of phishing emails from scammers in 2023 were sent to Russians on behalf of government and security agencies. Representatives of the center told RIA Novosti about this.

According to agency sources, the remaining share of letters came on behalf of lotteries, popular stores and trading platforms. In addition, phishing emails include mailings with threats and calls for banking transactions.

Most often, as Spetsvyaz employees point out, letters are sent with help. Email. According to representatives of the center, even experienced Internet users often become victims of this type of cybercrime.

In November 2023, the NAFI analytical center reported that almost every resident of Russia has encountered fraud attempts at least once over the past 12 months. More than half of respondents who encountered scammers (55%) contacted some authority. Most often, respondents complain to banks, NAFI analysts indicate.
