According to a study by the Yandex Travel service, 15% of Russians will go to another city to give their relatives a New Year’s gift, another 15% will go to another country for this. 4.2 thousand Russians over 18 years old took part in the study of the service, which is available to Kommersant.
As reported in the service materials, a third of respondents plan to get to their destinations by train, 22% by plane, and every fifth by train. It is noted that 15% of respondents will go by bus, every tenth by car.
According to Yandex Travel, 55% of respondents plan to give New Year’s gifts to family and friends. Among the most popular gift ideas are perfumes and cosmetics (42%), alcohol (33%), toys, puzzles and board games (31%), treats for the table (26%), theater and concert tickets (24%), sweets (22%).
According to the service, 41% of respondents try to make a surprise for their loved ones, every fifth clarifies wishes for gifts in advance. 21% of respondents do not ask about gifts in advance because they believe that they know the tastes of their loved ones. About 18% plan to donate money so as not to make a mistake with their choice.
The study notes that 30% of respondents consider socks to be the worst gift, 13% – pickles, 11% – bathroom sets. At the same time, 23% of respondents receive the last category of goods as a gift. The list of the most desirable gifts for the holiday includes sweets (19%) and money (18%).
The service also found out how much respondents plan to spend on gifts. The majority of respondents (28%) intend to buy gifts in the amount of 30 thousand to 50 thousand rubles, 14% – from 20 thousand to 30 thousand, 18% – up to 5 thousand rubles.
