Last year was a record year for the number of new instruments. In particular, 37 new derivatives were launched. Among them are perpetual futures for gold and the Moscow Exchange index, premium options for currencies and commodities, futures for new currency pairs, stocks and commodities.

The volume of trading in derivatives market instruments in the last month of 2023 amounted to 8.6 trillion rubles. compared to 4.7 trillion in December 2022. The average daily trading volume has more than doubled since the beginning of 2023, amounting to RUB 411 billion in December.

The most popular futures contracts in 2023 by the number of active clients among individuals are contracts on foreign exchange rates against the ruble: dollar-ruble (44%) and yuan-ruble (24%), as well as on natural gas prices (38%), Brent crude oil (35%), ordinary shares of Sberbank (30%) and gold (24%).

In addition, in December, a record open interest in premium stock options was recorded – more than RUB 7 billion. In total, more than 55 thousand clients traded premium options on stocks, currencies, gold and the Moscow Exchange index last year.

Among the perpetual contracts on the Moscow Exchange, the maximum trading activity was recorded in perpetual futures for the dollar-ruble pair: the average daily trading volume for the year exceeded 4.5 billion rubles. The total trading volume of perpetual futures for currencies, gold and index at the end of the year also became a record and amounted to a record 1.7 trillion rubles. In total, 42.5 thousand clients traded perpetual futures on the Moscow Exchange in 2023.
