Guest soloist of the Mariinsky Theater Zinaida Tsarenko (mezzo-soprano) won the Grand Prix at the XVII Tchaikovsky Competition. The competition was held from June 19 to July 1 in Moscow and St. Petersburg. The winner of the Grand Prix was announced following the results of the second gala concert of laureates, the message says on website competition.

Mrs. Tsarenko is 30 years old, a native of Khabarovsk. She graduated from the Novosibirsk College of Music, the St. Petersburg Conservatory and her assistant-internship. She first took part in a Mariinsky opera performance in 2022, singing the part of Olga in the chamber version of Eugene Onegin. In the same year she made her debut on the stage of the theater, singing Lyubasha (“The Tsar’s Bride”).

The International Tchaikovsky Competition is held every four years. This year 236 young musicians from 23 countries took part in it. According to the results of the gala concert, musicians from Russia (4) and South Korea (3) received gold medals in six specialties (piano, violin, cello, solo singing, woodwinds and brass instruments).
