“Zaryadye is becoming a prominent place in the Moscow exhibition field” – Kommersant FM

Kommersant FM columnist Dmitry Butkevich recalls several striking exhibitions that opened in 2023.

Summing up the exhibition year, I would like to recall several projects from both public and private museums. The first to mention is the summer project of the Museum of Russian Impressionism “Dobychina’s Choice”. For the first time, domestic researchers tried to show the amazing artistic practices of the early 20th century – the first female dealer Nadezhda Dobychina in all her strength and beauty.

A little earlier, a project dedicated to the vibrant ethnic group of Bukharan Jews was launched at the Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center.

There were anniversary projects (two at once) dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the famous architect Shchusev, who was first a modernist and then became a classicist. Its most famous building is the Lenin Mausoleum on Red Square. And the exhibitions were held at the Museum of Architecture – “Alexey Shchusev. 150″ and in the DPI Museum – “Composed by the architect Shchusev.”

A unique exhibition project dedicated to the 140th anniversary of Pavel Filonov has just opened at Zaryadye. Never before had anyone seen so many Filonovs in Moscow. And in St. Petersburg, where his large collection is kept in the Russian Museum, so many works have never been exhibited together before.

Of course, it is strange that Zaryadye, and not the Tretyakov Gallery (here it is clear that inter-museum relations are not at their best), or the Central Manege, where the exhibition seemed to be supposed, but this hall is too focused on government events. Well, let there be Zaryadye, which is becoming a prominent place in the exhibition field of Moscow.

Of course, “Nicholas Roerich” on Krymsky Val. I’m not too partial commented on this exhibitionhowever, it is necessary to watch it in order to form your own idea of ​​​​this author.

Undoubtedly, we should remember the project of the Triumph gallery at Winzavod “Based on real events.” Over the past ten years, neither I nor anyone, perhaps, have seen such a report on domestic video art.

Among foreign projects, I would especially like to mention my beloved Vermeer at the Amsterdam Rijksmuseum in the first half of the year. It was a real blockbuster: they brought 28 of the 37 paintings attributed to the 17th-century painter. There were 650 thousand visitors, 100 thousand catalogs were sold.
