Director of the Great Moscow Circus Edgard Zapashny in an interview with RBC statedthat circus art, like any other, directly depends on the political situation, therefore “it (the circus) cannot remain outside of politics.”

According to Zapashny, the situation in the country over the past two years has been “unstable”, and instability is “coming in waves.” The artist told reporters that after the start of the SVO, “many were in a panic,” some “simply left,” but “after six months, the attitude in society towards this issue stabilized” and “the audience returned to us.”

Zapashny also said that after the start of the SVO, Russian circus performers lost many foreign contracts for performances, but stable demand remained in China, and “we have excellent relations with North Korea.” In the DPRK, Zapashny added, there are many strong acrobats, and the Russian circus has the opportunity to hire them.
