Zapashny suggested that it would be difficult to restore Pugacheva’s reputation, especially among the younger generation who is less familiar with her, since she “painted herself into a corner.”
The director of the Circus on Vernadsky said that he continues to respect Pugacheva as a performer and consider her one of the greatest singers of the Soviet Union and new Russia. “But the way she’s behaving now, Kobzon is turning over in his grave,” Zapashny said, saying that Kobzon, unlike Pugacheva, “always put the interests of the country first.”
