“Young people, disillusioned, only ask to mobilize for a renewal of social democracy”

Jyoung people from all over France, activists and activists of democratic socialism whether or not they are involved in a party, we call today for the reconstruction of a political force bringing together all those aspiring to see the left regain power.

Emmanuel Macron’s first five-year term marked the advent of unbridled neoliberalism, coupled with a practice of presidential power which, after these five years, has finished weakening our already shaky institutions. The opposition, polarized around the extremes, right and left, was unable to propose a credible alternative project, annihilating all hope for the French.

The absence of perspectives, of clarity and the lowering of the level of political debate led to the election of eighty-nine National Rally deputies, to the absence of an absolute majority and to the end of the Republican front. Young people engaged in all territories, we refuse to give up in the face of the fight against the extreme right which is the driving force behind our commitment.

The union of the left around radicalism and the vagaries of the presidential majority have fractured the Republican camp. The fight is waged project against project, with the ambition of convincing the voters of the insecure classes who have chosen the far right.

Universalism and secularism

The political offer presented to the left in the legislative elections did not convince the French: a record abstention rate (up to 80% in working-class neighborhoods), a France which voted overwhelmingly on the right (26% for the union of the left, 74% for the right and the extreme right), and left-wing voters remained on the sidelines, with only 43% of socialist sympathizers who declared having voted for the New Popular Ecological and Social Union (Nupes ) (“ Analysis of an end of the electoral cycle », June 24, 2022, Jean-Jaurès Foundation).

The Socialist Party has chosen an unnatural union. Yet the political space for a governing left is greater than ever. The youth, disillusioned, only asks to mobilize to be heard and for a revival of social democracy.

To those ready to cut corners on our fundamental principles for a few positions, we oppose an unfailing defense of republican universalism and secularism, a relentless fight against communitarianism and the promotion of living together as a hope for an open France. and united.

That our institutions are out of breath should never justify weakening them. Rebalancing powers, strengthening our justice and our security, emphasizing the place of intermediary bodies and initiating a new act of decentralization are the first challenges that we must take up.
