American companies that have withdrawn from the Russian market due to sanctions are looking for ways to covertly trade with Russia through Turkey. About it informs Turkish newspaper Yeni Safak, citing sources in local business circles.
Some US companies are offering Turkish businesses to trade with Russia in exchange for a “certain commission”, the sources said. It is noted that in recent months the number of such proposals has increased.
According to the newspaper, organizations purchasing Russian goods conduct their business through Turkey and Dubai. We are talking about the purchase of petrochemical products, mineral fuels, precious metals and stones, grain, iron, etc.
It is specified that the companies have attracted their “daughters” created in the free zones of Dubai for this. The publication writes that organizations resort to this method to cover losses due to leaving Russia.
After the start of the special operation in Ukraine, Western countries imposed large-scale sanctions against Russia. Many sectors of the economy fell under the restrictions, including the high-tech sector, aviation, the banking industry, the mining industry, the automotive industry, etc.
On August 21, the Turkish Ministry of Finance and Treasury promised the United States to prevent Russian citizens or organizations from circumventing Western sanctions. Deputy Finance Minister Yunus Elitas said Turkey “opposes Russia’s invasion of Ukraine” but refrains from joining Western sanctions on Moscow, which remains a key supplier of natural gas and crude oil.
