“Yandex” removed the borders of regions from the map service

The Yandex.Maps service no longer shows the borders of regions and cities of federal significance. In June, after the update of the service, state borders disappeared on the overview map of the world. Now only natural objects remain.

“The changes are related to the update launched this summer. We continue to develop a physical-geographical map with an emphasis on natural objects,” the press service of Yandex.Maps reports.

The gradual update on the maps affected the borders of not only states, but also cities. When viewing cities such as Minsk, Kyiv, London, Paris, Tel Aviv, and cities in Russia, borders continue to be displayed. The changes affected the cities of federal significance in Russia. The update is available both in the web version and in the mobile app.

Representatives of Yandex.Maps previously spokethat after the June update the map will become physiographic. Employees of the company reported that their task was to “display the world around”, so mountains, rivers and other data characteristic of this type of maps began to appear.
