Yandex Music deleted over 4 thousand pieces of content at the request of authorities

Audio streaming “Yandex Music” in the first nine months of 2023, at the request of Roskomnadzor, deleted 4,333 units of content, follows from the company’s report, excerpts from which are given RBC. The main reasons for deletion were the content of false information about the military operation in Ukraine or discrediting the Russian army, as well as descriptions or propaganda of LGBT people and information about a method of committing suicide.
According to the Yandex Music report, in January-June the service received 275 requests from government agencies demanding that they remove content from 305 links where music tracks, videos, podcast episodes and album covers were posted. In the first half of 2023, the audio service deleted 3,246 pieces of content, and another 1,087 in the third quarter. This, according to Yandex Music, is less than 0.01% of the total catalogue.
From July “Yandex Music” introduced new rules for posting content on the site. Content began to be checked for “sensitivity” using artificial intelligence – the service introduces pre-moderation of tracks. Music that, according to Yandex, may cause discomfort among listeners, began to be marked with special age restriction icons. It is expected that such tracks will be excluded from recommendations or completely removed from the platform.
