“Entering foreign markets is one of the priorities of Yandex’s food tech business. “Yandex Food” is already working in Kazakhstan and Belarus. Thanks to the closing of the deal on the purchase of Delivery Club, we will be able to allocate more resources to the localization of the service, which is necessary to launch new countries,” said the head of “Yandex food “Roman Maresov.
The report also says that more than 100 restaurants and cafes in Yerevan have already been connected to the service. In addition to prepared food from restaurants, users can order goods from stores: food and drinks, including alcohol, sports nutrition, pet products. Armenian legislation allows the delivery of alcohol. Later, the service will add the ability to order over-the-counter drugs and dietary supplements from pharmacies, which is also allowed by the country’s legislation.
On September 12, Yandex closed the sale of the Zen recommendation platform and the Novosti aggregator and the purchase of the Delivery Club food delivery service. The deal to acquire Yandex’s Delivery Club service was completed last week, on September 9th. The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) approved the sale of Delivery Club, Zen and Novosti to Yandex and VK at the end of August.
Details of the asset swap between Sberbank, VK and Yandex became known on August 23. VK has announced that it will withdraw from O2O Holding, a joint venture with Sberbank, and will receive 100% in the Delivery Club service, which will subsequently be transferred to Yandex. In exchange, VK will receive media assets – a news aggregator and Zen, as well as the yandex.ru address.
