X5 Group Company (MOEX: FIVE), which manages the Pyaterochka, Perekrestok and Chizhik chains, intends to introduce a mechanism for automatically banning the sale of expired products in all of the retailer’s stores. Stanislav Bogdanov, Director for Relations with Government Authorities of X5 Group, recalled that a pilot for such a blocking had already been launched.

“We will scale it to all stores across the country. We see in this technology that products that have expired simply do not appear on the receipt. Previously, this was a human factor when the cashier manually checked it at the checkout and it took us a long time. Thanks to labeling, these processes are simplified,” said Mr. Bogdanov during the international forum “Anti-counterfeiting” (quote from TASS).

From February 1 to August 1 of this year, blocking in Russia was used in an experimental format for certain types of dairy products, drinking water, beer, and tobacco products. The Center for the Development of Advanced Technologies (operator of the Honest Sign system) reported that as a result, sales of expired products decreased by 25%.
