Delays in the supply of chilled poultry to Russian regions in the first days of January were caused by frost and snowfall, it was reported RBC in the press service of the X5 Group company (MOEX: FIVE; owner of the stores “Pyaterochka”, “Chizhik”, “Perekrestok”).
X5 Group assured that they are doing everything possible to deliver the missing goods to stores. The supply schedule will be restored in the near future, the press service noted. An RBC source in another retail chain said that there is no shortage of chicken meat, “and such stories happen periodically during the holidays.”
Residents of Yekaterinburg, Samara, and Chelyabinsk complained about the lack of chicken meat in Pyaterochka, Perekrestok, and Chizhik. Local authorities reported that there were no problems with the supply of chicken to the regions.
In December, the government temporarily zeroed out duties on the import of frozen domestic chicken meat in the amount of up to 140 thousand tons. The decision was made to stabilize prices due to increased supply in the domestic market. By the end of 2023, chicken meat had risen in price by more than 20%, chicken eggs by 40%.
