WSJ: US Department of Commerce considers measures against Kaspersky Lab

The US Department of Commerce is considering the possibility of applying restrictive measures against Kaspersky Lab, reported The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) citing sources.
Washington fears that a Russian company may assist Moscow in carrying out cyber espionage. The American authorities are especially concerned that Kaspersky Lab products run on the computers of some operators of critical infrastructure facilities (energy, water supply, etc.).
The WSJ does not specify what consequences the administrative impact on the part of the Ministry of Trade will entail. The newspaper, however, clarifies that the agency can apply the same measures of influence to Chinese IT players, in particular, TikTok.
In March, US authorities made “Kaspersky Lab” in the list of potential threats to national security. At the same time, according to media reports, the Biden administration demanded from the Ministry of Finance to impose sanctions against the company. The financial department did not take this step. In May Reuters informedthat the White House appealed to the Ministry of Commerce with a demand to intensify the investigation against Kaspersky.
