The Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Hollywood film studios intend to return to the negotiation process for the first time since the beginning of the union strike, which has lasted for several months. This is reported The New York Times.
On Tuesday, negotiator Carol Lombardini told union members that she had invited the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) to meet this Friday, August 4th. At the same time, both the WGA and AMPTP said that they would refrain from commenting on the negotiation process for the time being.
Writers Guild announced about the beginning of an indefinite strike on May 2. The union has been negotiating with representatives of the studios for several months to extend the existing agreement, but the parties have not been able to agree. The main demands of the scriptwriters were an increase in payouts and a ban on replacing people with neural networks like ChatGPT.
Similar demands were put forward by the American Directors Guild, but in this case, the studios decided to meet halfway, and in early June, the parties announced about signing the agreement. But the film studios and streaming services could not agree with the actors, and as a result, the US Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) voted for the strike that began on 14 July. As a result of the strikes of actors and screenwriters, film and TV series shooting in Hollywood is almost completely terminated.
