Residents of the city center did not notice the “raging elements”, but there is a nuance
One of the top topics in recent hours has been the rampant weather disaster in the Republic of Crimea. Massive flooding and water and power outages have been reported. Meanwhile, several people in Sevastopol, interviewed by a MK journalist, assured that they “did not notice” the weather disaster on the peninsula.
And it’s all about geography. When the name of a settlement is heard in the news, its area and distribution in the center and on the outskirts are not taken into account, explained a resident of a coastal city of federal significance, who did not want to give his name.
– It’s a normal cloudy day now. It was raining in the morning. In some areas, as I read in the city chat, there is no water. And we have it. Sitting indoors at work, I didn’t notice anything – it had been pouring from the sky since the morning. But that’s all.
– Why is the picture in reality and on the TV screen so different?
– Sevastopol is very big. The center is a small part. But there are outskirts, where everything is no longer so safe. Flooding occurred in villages that are located closer to the mountains – local geographic specifics must be taken into account.
Sevastopol writer Platon Besedin also assured that the weather is deteriorating, the cold wind is growing, “but we don’t have any specific emergency.”
Naturally, this applies only to the territory where our interlocutors are located.
At the same time, weather forecast services for the evening of January 19 show “no precipitation” in Sevastopol at a temperature of plus 8, promising for tomorrow a wind increase of up to 16 meters per second, which is almost the norm for Crimea.
Let us remember that during the last storm of the elements, at the end of November 2023, when the wind felled trees and tore power lines, its speed reached an unrealistic 38 meters per second. This cannot be compared with today’s situation.
