Problems with loading the operating system have been arising since the summer of 2022, Microsoft suspended sales of its programs in Russia in March in response to the introduction of troops into Ukraine.

IT expert Dmitry Bevza said “Izvestia”that, in his opinion, there has been an adjustment of the corporation’s policy towards Russian users who have already bought the software. Telecom Daily CEO Denis Kuskov considers Microsoft’s decision to be good news for those who were forced to use unauthorized sources of access to software such as torrent trackers, as such collections may contain viruses.
Microsoft suspended sales and provision of services in Russia in early March. Problems loading Windows, as well as with the Media Creation Tool (needed to update the operating system) began to emerge in mid-June. In September it became known that Microsoft does not give access to upgrade the operating system from Windows 10 to Windows 11.
By data “Kommersant”, by November, the share of laptops supplied to the Russian Federation with a preinstalled operating system (OS) Windows was reduced to less than one third. At the same time, at the end of the past – the beginning of this year, more than half of all devices were equipped with an OS from Microsoft. Previously, experts predicted that by the end of the year the share of new laptops without OS in Russian retail could reach 80-90%.
