Wildberries registered its brand in China – Kommersant

The Russian marketplace Wildberries plans to enter the Chinese market, they write Vedomosti citing a source familiar with the online retailer’s plans. According to the interlocutor of the publication, Wildberries has already begun negotiations with potential partners.
Vedomosti notes that the desire of Wildberries to take a place in the Chinese market is also confirmed by the data of the open registry of the Chinese trademark bureau. The Russian marketplace has already registered its brand in China, and in all 45 classes of the International Classification of Goods and Services.
Alina Akinshina, General Director of Online Patent, explained that the registration of a trademark in the country implies the intention of the company to enter its market. Also, the purpose of registration, according to her, may be the desire to block the possibility of seizure of the company’s trademark by third parties.
Wildberries is one of the largest online retailers in the Russian market. At the end of 2022, the turnover from sales of goods and services on the marketplace amounted to 1.67 trillion rubles, which is 98% more than a year earlier. In the first quarter of this year, turnover increased by 100%, to 577.19 billion rubles.
Prior to the start of the military operation in Ukraine, Wildberries offices were located in 18 countries of the world, in particular in the USA, Great Britain, Germany and France. After March 2022, the company stopped working in countries that the Russian authorities consider unfriendly. Now Wildberries is represented in Kazakhstan, Belarus, Armenia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Israel and Azerbaijan. Earlier it was reported that Wildberries filed trademark applications in Singapore and Thailand.
