From October 9, the Russian marketplace Wildberries introduced a commission of 3% of the purchase price for paying for goods from cards of the international payment systems Visa and Mastercard. About it “Vedomosti” said a source close to the company.
The introduction of the commission is explained by the fact that Wildberries cannot directly process transactions on Visa and Mastercard cards issued in Russia. As Dmitry Kolesnikov, director for development of financial and payment services at Wildberries, explained, we are talking about the remuneration of the bank that processes the payment.
In August 2021, the marketplace introduced a 2% commission for Visa and Mastercard cardholders. Then the CEO of Mastercard in Russia, Alexey Malinovsky, explained that all transactions in the country are processed by NSPK, and the payment system does not directly charge any commissions from merchants.
In the spring of 2022, after the start of Russia’s military operation in Ukraine, Visa and Mastercard cut off Russian cards from service. In Russia they continue to work, since all transactions are processed by NSPK.
