Wi-Fi equipment for schools suspended in Russia

Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media Maksut Shadayev said that the program to connect schools to Wi-Fi has been suspended. He did not explain the reasons. At the moment, according to the minister, 9,000 Russian schools out of 40,000 are connected to Wi-Fi.
“The programs that we are forced to suspend are Wi-Fi in schools,” Mr. Shadayev said at a meeting of the State Duma Committee on Budget Policy (quoted by RIA Novosti).
He added that the Ministry of Digital Development, together with the Ministry of Education, will observe the practice of using Wi-Fi in schools, finalize some points and return to this issue.
Also, Mr. Shadayev said that next year all military commissariats will be connected to the secure Internet and to the network of the Ministry of Defense.
On September 1, the Ministry of Education banned the use of mobile phones in class. The innovation is fixed in the “new sanitary rules”, and earlier teachers asked for such a ban, said the head of the Ministry of Education, Sergei Kravtsov. The ban is aimed at “so that mobile phones do not distract schoolchildren from classes.”
